Why trust them, ever?

The casino was, is and always will be a bad deal for the region. However, I do not understand and am disappointed with the stance of your fellow selectmen.
I am not a Wall Street high finance wheeler dealer, but aren't financial contracts frequently renegotiated without either side taking offense? To suggest that re-opening negotiations will somehow offend the Tribe or damage the Town's relationship with them is absurd. We know we got a bad deal and Middleboro is going to be left with the short end of the stick.
This process is like a sports star negotiating a contract with a team. Each side wants what is best for their own interests. Once the deal is done to everybody's satisfaction, everybody plays on the same team without animosity.
If the Tribe is offended because our BOS want to look out for the best interest of our town, then I am offended that the Tribe expects us to roll over and be used as a door mat to their billion dollar resort casino.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6951317947613980317.post-44116938913095943002009-01-09T16:05:00.000-05:002009-01-09T16:05:00.000-05:00Mr. Bond,Wow, where has that logical opinion and l...Mr. Bond,

Wow, where has that logical opinion and leadership been? Fight for us Mr. Bond! Fight now. No to the casino unless the numbers make sense! It seems as though you are coming to your senses and are FINALLY not drinking the kool aid. You are now a REAL leader, even though you quoted "Wall Street" the movie in your blog, not what they actually say on Wall Street, I still commend you. Thank you for finally standing up for the special town of Middleboro and its integrity. Coming from New York, I really believe this whole event will awaken you and others on how special the character of Middleboro is. If not, then it is a tradgedy for all and your mark will be infamous. NOW is time for you to fight for us and use all your skills! Go get them Mr. Adam Bond, and make us proud! Get them "while they are down" just like they did to us!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6951317947613980317.post-82172953730123970452009-01-08T12:07:00.000-05:002009-01-08T12:07:00.000-05:00Mr. Bond: Looks like you've started to see a littl...Mr. Bond: Looks like you've started to see a little bit of the light. Don't open your eyes all at once or you'll be blinded.

The big issue is that there is no tribe. The illegal campaign donations to which Marshall has admitted had to do with winning federal recognition for the tribe. Therefore, if someone challenges that, there's a good chance federal recognition will be withdrawn.

The casino is not, of course, in the best interests of Middleborough, the region or the state. Casino gambling is a social ill that will bring nothing but traffic, crime and other problems. Once you've opened your eyes all the way, maybe you'll see that.Dan Kennedyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01012592167901076160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6951317947613980317.post-62174382875132694532009-01-07T21:21:00.000-05:002009-01-07T21:21:00.000-05:00While I can't forgive the way the BOS has treated ...While I can't forgive the way the BOS has treated casio skeptics, I can aplaud your recent statements. I can only hope that they are truly motivated by concern for the town and not some sort of scheme to repair the IGA which, IMHO, could be challenged in court, because the tribe has broken the terms (more than once)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6951317947613980317.post-51270091863413521472009-01-05T19:04:00.000-05:002009-01-05T19:04:00.000-05:00Mr. Bond:Welcome to the dark side...but seriously....Mr. Bond:

Welcome to the dark side...
but seriously. Thank you very, very much for having the courage to speak as you have just spoken. It's not easy, and the mindless sheeple who are terrified of frank and honest dialog across the table will villify you for it. I still disagree that this project is the right development for Middleboro (we'll always agree to disagree on that one) and I'm becoming more and more convinced that it's definitely not the right time for such a development project, given the state of the economy (and the present state of our "partners"). However, I thank you again, most sincerely, for having the courage to speak up despite the opposition and opprobrium that will follow. Believe it or not, this gives me no small measure of hope for the future, at least one of the 5 members of the present BOS is trying to be a good and careful steward of Middleboro's unique and priceless resources. I just wish you'd said half so much in July. But then again, hindsight is always 20/20. I'm looking forward to working with you in the future.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6951317947613980317.post-5672613698148634562009-01-05T15:10:00.000-05:002009-01-05T15:10:00.000-05:00Mr Bond:I applaud your effort to face this situati...Mr Bond:
I applaud your effort to face this situation squarely and to speak without mincing words. Most of us who understand that business dealings no longer stand on a man's words and a handshake, will support your efforts and resolve to address the Tribe and its investors NOW in the best interest of the Town of Middleboro. I wish you had been more forceful at the last selectmans meeting on this point.

I am specifically interested in the two occasions you mentioned that you believe that members of the town governement were relaying inside information to the other side in detriment to the town. This issue should be brought forward to the town.

It is my opinion that in this deal there have been several mistakes made. There have been IMO also several illegal moves by members of the tribe and our own government. These illegal actions should be investigated and those responsible should be punished as Mr. Marshall has been.

While I do not support the casino in any way, we need to meet with the tribe at the earliest date. The town needs to find out what is going on within their government and who we can trust, if anyone.

The town of Middleboro is in danger of a serious financial crisis if we wait until March and the land is put into trust. If that happens, we are stuck with a deal that insufficent to cover our costs.

This situation is exactly why we should have taken our time and not rushed into an agreement for a billion dollar casino like we were selling tomatoes off the back of a truck.

For that mistake, in my "humble opinion", you are the one most responsible. Please fix it!

Charles M Renfrew
Middleboro ResidentAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
